CIP (Cleaning In Place)
The term Cleaning in Place (CIP) refers to a process for cleaning process engineering systems (e.g., pharmaceutical production systems, bioreactors). In this cleaning process, the system is cleaned on all wetted surfaces without significant dismantling of components (e.g., valves). A reproducible process is defined by precisely specifying cleaning agents, pressures, temperatures, and times. CIP-compatible valves are characterized by an improved quality of all surfaces that come into contact with the process fluid and the avoidance of any dead spaces.
