FORGEVENT forged valves are made of forged solid material or die forged bodies. The special features are the large selection of housing materials and the associated material strength and homogeneity. The control valve is especially used with welded ends, as it can be connected directly to the pipeline. The trims are subject to the clamped basic principle of the ECOTROL® series, making maintenance very easy. The bonnet, which is fixed in the force bypass in our forged valves, offers the option of attaching any ARCA actuator. All this so that high-pressure control remains in controlled “flow”.

Frequently Asked Questions – FORGEVENT Forged Control Valve
What sets the FORGEVENT forged control valve apart?

The FORGEVENT Series 190 is a high-pressure single-seated control valve whose body is machined from forged solid bar stock or from drop forgings. This manufacturing method delivers an exceptionally homogeneous and high-strength material structure, allowing the valve to handle pressure ratings up to PN 400 (angle body up to Class 4500). Inside, the valve uses ARCA’s proven ECOTROL® clamp-seat principle – seat and plug can be exchanged without special tools, which keeps maintenance straightforward even in high-pressure service.

In which sizes, pressure ratings and temperatures is FORGEVENT available?

FORGEVENT is offered in nominal sizes DN 15 to DN 65 (½″ to 2½″). Pressure ratings range from PN 100 to PN 400 / ANSI Class 600 to Class 2500; the angle-body version even covers Class 4500. The temperature range is from –29 °C to +650 °C, making the forged valve suitable for the most demanding high-pressure / high-temperature applications.

What is the advantage of a forged body?

Compared to a cast body, a forged body has a homogeneous, pore-free material structure with improved strength and mechanical properties – especially under cyclic loading and high temperatures. This permits lower wall thickness, lower thermal mass for fast temperature transients, and higher safety reserves at extreme pressure ratings.

    Which body materials are available?

    FORGEVENT bodies are supplied in 1.0460 / A105 (up to 420 °C), 1.5415 / 16Mo3 (up to 530 °C), 1.7383 / A182 F22 Cl.3 (up to 600 °C / 650 °C ASME) or the creep-resistant 1.4903 / A182 F91 (up to 600 °C). This covers everything from standard high-pressure duty to superheated steam in modern ultra-supercritical (USC) power plants using P91-grade material.

    Which end connections are offered?

FORGEVENT is primarily designed for welded connections: butt-weld ends to DIN EN 12627 (PN 100/160/250/320/400), butt-weld ends to ASME B16.25 (Schedule 40/80/160/XXS), socket-weld ends to DIN EN 12760 up to DN 50 / PN 100, socket-weld and threaded ends to ASME B16.11 up to 2″/Class 1500, and project-specific extended weld ends are available. The valve therefore connects directly into any high-pressure piping environment without pipe adapters.

Which flow characteristics and rangeability does FORGEVENT provide?

Standard flow characteristics are equal-percentage and linear. The rangeability is 50:1 with the parabolic plug and 40:1 with the cage plug. The valve therefore delivers accurate control even with strongly varying loads – for example during plant start-up and shutdown.

    Which trims are available?

The portfolio includes single-stage and multi-stage parabolic plugs (P1, P3) as well as perforated plugs (L1, L2) for noise reduction and cavitation control. Trim materials range from 1.4122, 1.4571 and 1.4112 hardened to the creep-resistant 1.4922 (hardened for design temperature up to 650 °C). Optionally, the seating surfaces can be stellited or the entire trim can be fully stellited.

Which stem sealing options are used?

For high-temperature service, only adjustable gland packings are used: reinforced graphite/Inconel (–29 °C to 400 °C), pure graphite (–29 °C to 650 °C), and braided graphite/PTFE packings (–29 °C to 250 °C). The packing is thermally protected by a finned bonnet so that the stem seal performs reliably even at extreme media temperatures.

Which body configurations does FORGEVENT offer?

The forged valve is available in inline (globe) and angle configurations. The angle body is particularly suited to confined installation envelopes and to the very highest pressure ratings (up to Class 4500). The valve therefore integrates into any piping layout precisely – without additional bends or pipe adaptations.

Which seat leakage class does FORGEVENT achieve?

Class IV per IEC 60534-4 is reached as standard (0.01 % of Kvs). Class V is available as an option. The clamp-seat design ensures reliable internal tightness through self-centring, even after many operating cycles.

    Which actuator options are available?

FORGEVENT can be combined with all ARCA pneumatic actuators: multi-spring actuators Series 812 (MFI-30 / MFIII-30 / MFIII(v)-30) and single-spring actuators Series 811 (UV-60). Electric and electro-hydraulic actuators are available as an option. The bonnet flange in force-bypass design accepts all ARCA actuators, so the choice of actuator can be made freely based on thrust, stroking time and fail-safe action.

What about delivery times and spare-parts supply?

ARCA holds substantial stock of forged semi-finished material and trims. In combination with the ARCAsafe service package, short delivery times and reliable spare-parts supply are ensured, including for special materials. Wear and spare parts can often be replaced by the operator’s own personnel thanks to the clamp-seat construction.

    What are typical FORGEVENT applications?

Main applications include power generation (live steam, superheated steam, high-pressure conditioning), start-up and bypass stations, oil & gas (wellhead and production facilities), refineries (hydrocrackers, hydrotreaters, hydrogen production), fertiliser plants, and high-pressure petrochemical processes. In short: wherever the highest pressures and demanding control are required with welded connections.

Which standards and certifications does FORGEVENT comply with?

FORGEVENT is designed in accordance with the Pressure Equipment Directive 2014/68/EU; the body is engineered to EN 12516-2 / ASME B16.34. Seat leakage is tested to IEC 60534-4. Optional designs to AD 2000, ASME B16.34 / B31.3, TRD 110 (Gr.1 and Gr.2) and NACE MR0175 are available. A DNV Marine Type Approval (TAP00002TU, valid until 2029) is in place. ATEX compliance (depending on the maximum operating temperature) is covered by the manufacturer’s declaration to DIN EN ISO 80079-36.

Which service offerings does ARCA provide for FORGEVENT?

The full ARCA service portfolio is available: ARCAlaunch supports commissioning including flushing services, ARCAcare provides preventive maintenance, ARCAsafe ensures spare-parts availability with substantial inventory, ARCA24/7 guarantees round-the-clock telephone support, as well as theoretical and practical training sessions. Sizing is performed in ARCA-VENA; via the ARCAonsite platform, all documents are available via QR code directly at the valve.
