Pressure Equipment Directive

The Pressure Equipment Directive 2014/68/EU (PED) applies to the design, manufacture, and conformity assessment of pressure equipment and assemblies with a maximum allowable pressure of more than 0.5 bar, including vessels, piping, and their accessories. The CE marking in accordance with the Pressure Equipment Directive provides a legal basis for the manufacture and free sale of pressure equipment throughout the EU without having to undergo a local approval procedure in each member state.
The Pressure Equipment Directive only specifies the requirements for placing pressure equipment on the market (quality requirements). To meet the minimum requirements, the manufacturer can refer to harmonized standards (e.g., the EN 13445 series of standards for unfired pressure vessels or the EN 16668 standard for metallic industrial fittings) and assume that compliance with these standards fulfills these essential requirements.
