Food valve

A food valve is a special type of valve used in the food industry and related sectors to enable the controlled flow of food and raw materials such as milk, fruit juices, beer, and other liquids intended for human consumption. These valves are designed and manufactured to meet the highest hygiene requirements and ensure the safety and quality of food during the manufacturing process.

A key feature of food valves is the use of materials and designs that are easy to clean and disinfect without removal from the system (-> CIP) to prevent contamination or bacterial growth. This is crucial for complying with food standards and regulations. Non-metallic materials in particular, such as seals and gland packings, must meet specific approvals, such as FDA approval for the US market or EC Regulation 1935/2004.

Food valves are also known as hygienic valves because they have been specially developed for use in the food industry and feature a special design that enables a particularly high surface quality of all metal surfaces that come into contact with the medium through electropolishing.
